Custom vs. semi-custom invites

Many couples come to Song 3:4 to get a custom wedding invitation designed. It is our passion to design invitations specific to each couple we work with and create exactly what they are looking for. The process does take time since we are working from scratch. It is helpful for us to learn as much about the couple as we can. We love to see photos of the bride’s dress, the bridesmaid dresses, the cake, the flowers, or anything else that helps us to see the big picture of the day.

We designed these beautiful invitations for Tony and Emily. The were married last October and wanted a floral vintage design with an Autumn feel. After showing us a few concepts that they were in love with, we created the Organic Touches design.

But, not all couples need a custom design. Sometimes they just need a color change or what we call a semi-custom design. All of our designs are available for couples to purchase and we can change any or all the colors. It is a great option for several reasons.

1. The semi-custom designs are completed much quicker since the design work is already done.

2. The semi-custom designs are less expensive.

3. Sometimes it’s just easier for a couple to choose a design rather then think up a design.

Take Lexi and Nathan for example. They loved the Organic Touches design, but their wedding is in May. They were looking for bright, spring colors. Look at this transformation:

It’s French for “please reply.” Traditionally, couples have had their wedding guests RSVP with a response card enclosed into a separate envelope. Today, few couples still use the traditional response card method because there are many more options available.

The RSVP Postcard is a nice way to considerably cut the cost of postage by using a postcard stamp versus the normal first class stamp. Guests no longer have to stuff the response into an envelope; they just have to mark their reply and place it in the mailbox.

How clever and fresh are these wedding postcards from Song 3:4?

Couples who want to save money on stamps or save a few trees may go with a less traditional method to RSVP such as requesting guests call, text, email, or use a web site to make reservations for the big party.

When using a more technological route don’t forget to consider your audience. We all have that Uncle Bob who has never turned a computer on and will gripe about not being able to contact you. In this case it may be best to include a telephone number along with your email/web site as an option to respond.

Trends have changed enough to where couples using non-traditional methods are getting a very clear count on the number of people attending the ceremony and reception. Regardless of the current trends, the best option is for you to know your audience and send the RSVP that will ensure you get the best head count.

As you settle on a date for the big day it all seems more official, and now the real planning can begin. It’s time to let the world know you are about to tie the knot.

Save the Dates are a great way to announce your wedding. Typically they are sent out six months to one year before the big day. Save the Dates are especially helpful to guests if the wedding day falls over a holiday weekend. As far as style, the possibilities today are endless!

Whether choosing a magnet or a postcard, a little thought and creativity can bring some amazing results to your Save the Dates. How long have you been in business?
We started our business in February of 2007 when we designed invitations for some of our friends. At that point we fell in love with creating unique wedding stationery.

Who is your ideal client?
Our ideal client is the couple looking for a whole lot of creativity added into their entire wedding … the type of couple ready and willing to push the boundaries of what wedding stationery “should” look like.

What is your favorite part of your job?
The favorite part of our job is getting to know couples and learn about their lives so that we can create a cohesive and creative design for their wedding.

Did you go to school for your job or are you self-taught?
Song 3:4 is a team effort between Ty and Lindsay Hagerott. Lindsay is self taught in the industry and Ty attended North Dakota State University for Mass Communications. However, everyday we strive to learn a little bit more and stretch ourselves creatively.
